Verizon FiOS TV announced that they have a lofty goal of 150 channels of HD, over 1,000 HD On Demand programming titles, and a focus on expanding their multicultural and sports programming. Hearing this announcement makes me ask the dieing question, WHEN WILL Verizon FiOS be available in my area? Unfortunately, I’m very limited in my HD channel offerings and Insight seems to be a little behind the game at the moment.
Currently Verizon FiOS offers 20 different National HD channels, spread across nature programming, sports, and HD movie channels. By the end of 2008 Verizon hopes that this number will grow to the whopping 150 HD channel offering. For the HD on Demand, expect that ability to be ready by the end of 2007, just in time for entertaining the family.
Not only will Verizon FiOS be able to boast this massive list of HD Channels, but also the fact that they do NOT compress the HD signal. Most cable providers compress the HD signal that they receive from the manufacturer, FiOS is unique in that it’s delivered just like it’s received, therefore you receive a better picture quality when compared to like HD channels on other HD Channel networks.
