Amazon.com Product Description The Panasonic TH-42PZ700U 1080p Plasma HDTV sports a 42-inch plasma screen with 1080p resolution for a crystal clear viewing experience. It will feel right at home as the centerpiece of a home theater setup. An Understated Beauty The TH-42PZ700U does not look like it's trying too hard. Instead, it lets the big screen speak for itself. The glass is surrounded by a thick glossy black bezel on all sides, with a door on the bottom to keep controls out of sight. Another hatch hides a slot for SD memory cards. Speakers--matching in color and barely noticeable--are set on both sides of the display. The understated look would be an elegant addition to any decor.

Plasma HDTV May 11, 2008 I have two Panasonic plasma TV,s.A 37 and 42 inch. Both TV,s have outstanding pictures in HD and very good in non HD broadcast as compared to LCD,s LCD tv,s have a problem in non HD in that the picture quality is not near as good as plasma. When you look for TV,S in stores you will find that they all display a HD picture. That does not give you the true performance of a TV as most broadcasts are still in non HD. My recommendation is go for a plasma rather than a LCD until such time that all broadcast are in HDTV
Outstanding Television May 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
HD channels and Blue-ray discs are unbelievable. Its hard to watch the other CRT televisions in the house after this. It could use more HDMI ports though, it only has two. (You might want to set-up Cable box, Blue-ray, and Computer graphics card, for example) Speaker quality is amazing, sound is great if you don't want the hassle of setting up surround sound or stereo speakers. I would highly recommend installing at eye level if possible because you neck will hurt staring above the fireplace for so long!
Reliability Issues May 1, 2008 I have had this unit for 4 months now. All of a sudden, no picture, no sound. 7 flashes from the power indicator LED - that's it. Panasonic has scheduled a repair technician, but a month wait for the backordered part? Others have described a faulty power supply unit. I can't help but wonder if it takes a month to get the part - what arre they using to build the current TV's? I would really look around for another brand knowing what I know now. Sure the picture is nice, but NO picture? Tought to recommend based on my experience so far.
Do Not Buy April 25, 2008 Do Not Buy this Panasonic model or others without careful research. They are experiencing multiple component failures depending upon when they were manufactured. Mine failed after two months and after being dead for over a week, they now want to replace the actual plasma screen. The picture and sound are awesome - when it works. In-home service is great if you want them moving in. Read other rating sites to hear more horror stories.
Perfect Plasma TV - Pansonic HD TH-42PZ700U 1080p April 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I did alot of research on the web before I decided on my getting an HD TV. All the other reviews said the Panasonic was one of the best. And I wholeheartly agree. The picture is fabulous. Absolute perfection. Even my wife, who thought spending over a grand on a TV was crazy, loves it and feels it was money well spent. Be sure to get the 1080p. No matter what you read, there is a difference between 720i and 1080p. You will really notice it on DVD's with an upconverting DVD player. And be sure to hook up your pieces using HDMI cables. I also recommend you adjust the picture settings to your own tastes. The factory default setting is for vivid and for most shows it's just too intense. Also don't get one too big for your room. The larger the screen the further back you have to sit from the screen or else you'll actually see the pixels that make up the picture. The optimal distance for my 42" plasma is 9-11 ft. It'll be a shorter distance for smaller screens and a further distance for larger screens. Measuring your viewing distance first will help you decide which size HD TV to buy. The sound on this TV is amazing. I was going to get a home theater set up but waited until the TV arrived. WOW! The side speakers on the TV are definately plenty for the the average consumer. I was amazed. Unless of course you're a purist and you have to have that "movie theater" surround sound experience, save your money on the Home Theater set-up and try the built in speakers first. Lastly, I saved nearly $500 on this TV by getting a refurbished model. I have no idea why it was refurbished but it works perfectly. Don't be afraid of "refurbished", they still come with full warranties and you can save a ton of money.
